Keep holding the pattern of healthful words that you heard from me.—2 Tim. 1:13.
Knowledge of “the deep things of God” can give us strength to resist temptation to engage in lawless acts and can move us to be “zealous for fine works.” (1 Cor. 2:10; Titus 2:14) Understanding deep things requires study. However, study is not the same as reading something superficially. It involves carefully examining information to see how it fits the pattern of what we already know. It entails perceiving the reasons for what is said. Bible study should include meditating on how we can use what we learn in making wise decisions and in helping others. Also, since “all Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial,” our study should include “every utterance coming forth through Jehovah’s mouth.” (2 Tim. 3:16, 17; Matt. 4:4) Bible study can be hard work! But it can also be delightful, and understanding “the deep things of God” is not too difficult. w07 11/1 2:3, 4

I do indeed also consider all things to be loss on account of the excelling value of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord.—Phil. 3:8.
To Paul, the riches he gained through Christ excelled anything that the world could offer. Likewise, by relinquishing any selfish ambitions and pursuing a life of godly devotion, we too can enjoy a life that is rich in God’s eyes. God’s Word assures us: “The result of humility and the fear of Jehovah is riches and glory and life.” (Prov. 22:4) Consider the case of a woman who attended universities in France, Mexico, and Switzerland and was headed for a promising career. “Success smiled upon me; prestige and privilege accompanied me,” she said, “but on the inside, there was a void, a deep dissatisfaction.” Then she learned about Jehovah. She resigned from her position and was soon baptized. For the past 20 years, she has happily served in the full-time ministry. w07 8/1 2:17, 18
