Those who are determined to be rich fall into temptation and a snare and many senseless and hurtful desires, which plunge men into destruction and ruin.—1 Tim. 6:9.There is real danger if we lose sight of our true purpose and loosen our hold on “the real life.” (1 Tim. 6:19) We risk “being carried away by anxieties and riches and pleasures of this life.” (Luke 8:14) Uncontrolled desires and “anxieties over livelihood” can lead to excessive involvement in this system of things. (Luke 21:34, ftn.) Tragically, some have become caught up in today’s frenzied economy and have been “led astray from the faith and have stabbed themselves all over with many pains,” even losing their precious relationship with Jehovah. What a price to pay for not keeping “a firm hold on the everlasting life”! (1 Tim. 6:10, 12; Prov. 28:20) Paul advised “those making use of the world [to be] as those not using it to the full.”—1 Cor. 7:31. w07 10/1 1:14, 15

Because sentence against a bad work has not been executed speedily, that is why the heart of the sons of men has become fully set in them to do bad.—Eccl. 8:11

.Children need to know not only the family rules but also the penalties for breaking those rules. Once the penalties have been discussed and are understood, the rules need to be enforced. Parents are not being kind if they constantly warn their children about a deserved punishment but fail to carry it out. True, a parent may refrain from punishing a child in public or around the child’s peers, thus saving the young one some embarrassment. But children feel more secure and develop more respect and love for their parents when they know that their parents’ “Yes” means yes and their “No” means no—even if that entails punishment. (Matt. 5:37) Of course, if it is to be kind, the punishment and the way it is administered need to be tailored to the child. w07 9/1 1:12, 13

Jehovah is a lover of justice.—Ps. 37:28.
Because of his love of justice, Jehovah refrained from wiping out the rebels in Eden. Why? Satan’s rebellion raised a question regarding the rightness of God’s sovereignty. Jehovah’s sense of justice required that Satan’s challenge be given a just answer. The immediate execution of the rebels, while well-deserved, would not have provided such an answer. It would have provided further evidence of Jehovah’s supremacy in power, but his power was not in question. Furthermore, Jehovah had stated his purpose to Adam and Eve. They were to have offspring and were to fill the earth, subdue it, and have all earthly creation in subjection. (Gen. 1:28) If Jehovah had simply destroyed Adam and Eve, his stated purpose regarding humans would have become empty words. Jehovah’s justice would never allow for such an outcome, for his purpose is always accomplished.—Isa. 55:10, 11. w07 5/15 1:13, 14
